Congratulations, Allison! And thanks to wellesleyunderground for their Young Alum of the Month feature. We’re already looking forward the March YAOTM!

Thanks to @MsMakkah ‘10 for the #February #YAOTM submission!
I’d like to nominate Allison Bland (Class of 2009) as the Young Alum of the Month. You know how people are always telling you to think outside the box? Well for Allison there is no box. Her creativity knows NO bounds and she is always finding new ways to think about old concepts. She has remarkable insight about everything from race to education to technology to gender and back. In the six years that I have known Allison, she has always been actively seeking new opportunities— opportunities that would scare the shit out of me (like say, going to Haiti to assist with efforts on the ground almost immediately after the earthquake or coordinating a sleepover for inner city elementary school girls at the Museum of Science) but for her, it’s what makes sense. I could rattle off her resume so that you would actually see her as a legit candidate… but that’s boring. And I think the YAOTM awards are more about the characteristics a person embodies rather than the jobs they have had. Allison embodies everything that Wellesley taught us: she is curious, thoughtful, a risk-taker, a hard worker, a support system to those who know her well, and an all around amazing friend and human being and I can’t wait to see the amazing contributions she makes to society throughout her lifetime. She will most certainly be mortified that I submitted this nomination, because she likes to fly under the radar… but I am an inconsiderate person and don’t care about any of that… I’d like the entire Wellesley community to know that Allison Bland, one of my dearest friends, is my Young Alum of the Month.
